BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment provides a methodology for certification for those responsible for delivering sustainable domestic refurbishment projects. It is designed to help building owners and occupiers save operating costs, reduce the environmental impacts of refurbishments and to increase the sustainability of existing building stock.

This training course enables existing BREEAM Assessors to broaden their expertise, gaining a practical understanding of BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment, and apply to become a licensed assessor under the scheme.

After completing the course learners will be able to
Gain an understanding of sustainable refurbishment and the refurbishment market.
Understand and be confident in assessing the technical aspects of the BREEAM UK Domestic Refurbishment scheme.
Understand the assessment process and support structures in place for the scheme and assessors.
Gain a brief overview of Health & Safety and Building Regulations in a refurbishment context.
Understand the differences between the assessment of refurbishments compared to new build.

Successfully passing this course and examination enables you to apply for your assessor’s license under the BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment scheme.

Requirements
Learners must hold an existing BREEAM or HQM assessor licence

To take this course, learners must already be licensed as one of the following:

  • EcoHomes Assessor
  • Home Quality Mark (HQM) Assessor
  • BRE Global Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor
  • BREEAM UK Non-domestic New Construction Assessor
  • BREEAM UK Non-domestic Refurbishment and Fit-out Assessor

The course comprises of approximately 14 hours of own-pace online training material introducing you to the BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment scheme. This is followed by a classroom/ virtual event focusing on technical aspects of the scheme.

  • Categoreis and issues for BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment
  • Examination Information

Classroom/ virtual classroom Training

This 4 hour event enables learners to interact with a BREEAM trainer and to go through the technical issues of this scheme and includes a question and answer (Q&A) session. Please note that the examination does not take place during this event.

Examinations

The course programme concludes with one online examination, set at a day and time to be agreed between the learner and ProctorU, who invigilate examinations on behalf of BRE Academy. The examination must be passed for learners to be classified as competent:

  • BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment Technical examination

The exam is in an ‘open book’ format, meaning you can use any documents related to the course to aid you.
