Programme

This course is a combination of online learning and a one day virtual course

Online Learning:

The estimated minimum study time needed is up to 25 hours. The content will include:

  • The background to BREEAM and the context for BREEAM In-Use
  • The assessment methodology
  • The roles in BREEAM In Use

One day virtual course:

  • The certification process
  • Evidence gathering
  • Audit verification
  • Scheme rules
  • Quality assurance
  • Candidates will apply and share their expertise in a series of individual and team exercises
  • 1 x 60 minute BREEAM In-Use examination. (Examination takes place at a later date) **

** We have adapted the BIU (International and UK) new assessor training course as a one full day live-stream event (we are using GoTo Meetings for this service) with the examination taken at a later date via our online platform. Please note that BRE uses ProctorU Inc, based in the United States, to remotely invigilate and verify the identity of trainees taking the exam which forms part of this online learning course. For more information on ProctorU’s privacy policy and their “Privacy Shield” credentials, please go to https://www.proctoru.com/privacy-policy/.

Please note that if you wish to become a licensed BREEAM In-Use assessor you will need to submit an application form for licence after you have successfully passed the examination.

On successful completion of the course and the examinations you will be issued with notification that verifies your BREEAM Assessor qualification. You will then be required to apply to BRE Global Ltd to become a Licenced BREEAM Assessor under the Scheme in order to practice. You must make this application within 12 months of completing the course.

To practice as a licenced BREEAM Assessor you will be required to pay an annual licence fee and hold adequate levels of professional insurance, particularly professional indemnity insurance. Further information on the route to becoming a licenced BREEAM Assessor can be found at www.breeam.com

Qualification for the current course will allow you to carry out assessments (providing that a license has been taken out as an assessor) for the new BIU V6 scheme which was launched in May 2020. The training course material and examinations for the new V6 scheme are still under development and these will be launched later this year; for this reason we are able to continue to offer the BIU International and UK training as a route for qualification.

Intended Audience

This training course is specifically designed for built environment professionals that have a background either as an assessor in a BRE Global Scheme, or those with a background in the management and operation of the buildings.
