This 5-day online virtual classroom training course helps learners to achieve the Certified European Passive House qualification. The course prepares you for the Passive House examination which is set by the Passive House Institute (PHI) in Germany.
It is delivered by a certified trainer from the University of Strathclyde Energy Systems Research Unit (the BRE Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation) in partnership with the BRE Academy. The course provides you with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the Passive House examination as well as giving you a head-start for contributing to the design of residential Passive House projects.
You are required to undertake self-study of several online modules (video material plus exercises – approximately 30 hours in videos, quizzes and exercises plus 4-6 hours for a PHPP project) prior to attending the one week’s intensive virtual classroom training. It is important to complete this work to improve your understanding of Passive House and to maximise your benefit from the virtual classroom training. You will undertake mock exams during the classroom training to gauge your progress.
In arrangement with the PHI, this course will be delivered online as a virtual classroom which will replicate the workshop format of the original classroom training. The lectures will be supplemented by videos, live calculations, demonstrations and discussions to ensure delegates maximise their learning experience. To facilitate this the course is limited to 15 delegates.
Please note: As part of this training course you are required to purchase the PHPP 9 (2015 or newer) software and manual. This can be purchased from the AECB at a cost of £160 + VAT for non-members and is required for the online modules. (Please allow 1 working day to receive a registration number.) A printed copy of the PHPP manual can be obtained from the PHI shop.

The course cost includes your first attempt at the PHI examination. The examination must be taken within the first year of purchasing the training. In arrangement with the PHI the examination is usually undertaken online about a month after the training course to give time for learners to consolidate their learning.
Please note that the process of marking examination papers and validation by PHI can take 6 weeks.
If an exam retake is required, then an additional fee is charged.
