The quantification and reduction of environmental impacts through building LCA (life cycle assessment) is becoming increasingly relevant as operational energy-related impacts decrease, and embodied impacts across all life cycles.
Mat 01 in the BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 scheme requires the use of building LCA to determine the impacts associated with the construction products specified for a new building. However many in the construction industry are unfamiliar with LCA and this can deter project teams from seeking to demonstrate performance against the latest Mat 01 criteria.
This e-learning module introduces the scope, approaches and timing of LCA for UKNC 2018 assessment and pulls together guidance produced by BRE Global in an easy-to-follow format to help assessors better advise design teams and clients on the Mat 01 requirements.

Is it right for me?
This module is aimed at licensed BREEAM assessors who are trained in the BREEAM UK New Construction schemes UKNC 2018, however it may be helpful for design team members or client teams familiar with the requirements of BREEAM, and who are involved in targeting UKNC 2018 Mat 01 credits to also view this module.
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, this is primarily aimed at BREEAM assessors, therefore an understanding of BREEAM terminology, operation and requirements is recommended.
