BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 – New Assessor (virtual classroom)

BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings. It recognises and reflects the value in higher performing assets across the built environment lifecycle, from new construction to in-use and refurbishment. BREEAM does this through third party certification of the assessment of an asset’s environmental, social and economic sustainability performance, using standards developed by BRE Global Ltd. The role of Assessors is vital to the BREEAM certification process. Qualified and licensed BREEAM Assessors work with project teams to conduct the assessment of a building/asset prior to checking by the certification body, BRE Global Ltd. This process puts Assessors at the forefront in driving industry change towards a more sustainable built environment. eLearning learning BREEAM UK New Construction (NC) Assessor training commences with approximately 30 hours of interactive online modules delivered through our dedicated online learning portal. You will be led on a journey into BREEAM by way of interactive content and technical presentations, which will gradually build your knowledge and confidence with the BREEAM UKNC 2018 scheme. You can complete these modules at your own pace, throughout the modules there are quiz questions so you can check your understanding as you progress through the course. Virtual Live-stream event training Following the online learning phase, you will attend a two day virtual event course which will consolidate your understanding and newly acquired knowledge. Through interactive workshops and learning activities, we will refine your understanding gained through the online training, moving onto the more complex and technical aspects of the scheme. Mat 01 Explained

The quantification and reduction of environmental impacts through building LCA (life cycle assessment) is becoming increasingly relevant as operational energy-related impacts decrease, and embodied impacts across all life cycles. Mat 01 in the BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 scheme requires the use of building LCA to determine the impacts associated with the construction products specified for a new building. However many in the construction industry are unfamiliar with LCA and this can deter project teams from seeking to demonstrate performance against the latest Mat 01 criteria. This e-learning module introduces the scope, approaches and timing of LCA for UKNC 2018 assessment and pulls together guidance produced by BRE Global in an easy-to-follow format to help assessors better advise design teams and clients on the Mat 01 requirements.

Learning Objectives

Scope of Mat 01 Assessment approaches and impact on scoring:
  • Comparison with BREEAM benchmark
  • Options appraisal
Assessment stages LCA tools:
  • Tutorial: BREEAM Simplified LCA tool.
  • Tutorial: Obtaining results using the Mat 01 results submission tool.
