Installation and Maintenance of Steel Hinged Fire Doors (classroom)
Poor fire door installation can mean that well-manufactured doors fail to provide the required performance in the event of a fire. The installation of a door set is as much a part of the fire resistance test as the door set itself. Alterations to the method of installation must be covered by a test report, an assessment report or an extended field of application report. BRE and the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) have developed this comprehensive and practical one-day training course that provides important details that must be addressed when installing and maintaining steel hinged fire doors. Repair and maintenance of a life-safety device such as a fire door is imperative. On this expert-led training course, you’ll learn how going maintenance is a vital preventive measure to ensure that the door set operates correctly at all times.

BREEAM In-Use Version 6 Client User Guide
BREEAM In-Use (BIU) is a comprehensive and holistic environmental assessment method that can be used for almost any type of building, including commercial and residential assets, across the world. Since its creation in 2009, BREEAM In-Use has been used by thousands of assets in over 30 countries to benchmark, improve and certify their sustainability performance and to showcase high standards of ESG. BIU Version 6 offers the latest in environmental standards with tailored approaches for both commercial and residential assets These approaches create, protect and grow asset value by encouraging investment in the asset’s performance. As part of the BIU V6 offering, an online platform is provided to allow Clients (asset owners and managers) to assess the performance of their assets, measure how they perform against BREEAM criteria and submit their evidence for certification via an Assessor. This platform user guide will help Clients to familiarize themselves with the platform and understand its features.
Learning objectives
Delegates will learn:- BREEAM Basics - how BREEAM works and the mechanism behind getting a rating.
- How to register, measure and certify your asset using the platform.
- Introduction to our portfolio approach.
- Background on our National scheme operators (NSOs).
Who is this for?
This user guide is for Clients (asset owners, operators and managers) using BREEAM In-Use Version 6. It applies to assessments against all International, USA, Commercial and Residential standards.

Introduction to SABRE
SABRE inspires property designers, developers, owners and occupiers to adopt a systematic, risk-based approach to security in and around their built assets. This makes the return on investment in security much more visible, quantifiable and justifiable, whilst enabling security to become better integrated into a building’s design, construction and operation. This course provides an overview of the built asset life cycle stages SABRE can cover, the assessment process and timeline, and the key principles of certification that ensure the reliability, impartiality and comparability of a SABRE rating to give added value to your any project or operational facility. The course finally summarises the benefits that SABRE assessment and certification can bring to a range of stakeholders. N.B. BRE Global (incorporating LPCB and SABRE) is a CPD partner of the Security Institute. Therefore, this course is worth double points to those demonstrating Continual Professional Development through the Security Institute’s learning platform. This course is intended to last 1 hour, and as such is worth 2 Security Institute CPD points.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this short course you will be able to:- Identify the benefits of using SABRE;
- Understand the scheme structure and how it applies at each stage of a built asset’s lifecycle;
- Identify the role of the SABRE Assessor;
- Understand how a project or built asset is assessed and rated in SABRE; and
- Understand the importance of certification.
Is it right for me?
This course is ideal for anyone looking to understand what SABRE is about and forms a foundation for further training in SABRE. Those interested in becoming a SABRE Assessor should contact sabre@bre.co.uk.Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course.

Mat 01 Explained
The quantification and reduction of environmental impacts through building LCA (life cycle assessment) is becoming increasingly relevant as operational energy-related impacts decrease, and embodied impacts across all life cycles. Mat 01 in the BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 scheme requires the use of building LCA to determine the impacts associated with the construction products specified for a new building. However many in the construction industry are unfamiliar with LCA and this can deter project teams from seeking to demonstrate performance against the latest Mat 01 criteria. This e-learning module introduces the scope, approaches and timing of LCA for UKNC 2018 assessment and pulls together guidance produced by BRE Global in an easy-to-follow format to help assessors better advise design teams and clients on the Mat 01 requirements.
Learning Objectives
Scope of Mat 01 Assessment approaches and impact on scoring:- Comparison with BREEAM benchmark
- Options appraisal
- Tutorial: BREEAM Simplified LCA tool.
- Tutorial: Obtaining results using the Mat 01 results submission tool.
Is it right for me?
This module is aimed at licensed BREEAM assessors who are trained in the BREEAM UK New Construction schemes UKNC 2018, however it may be helpful for design team members or client teams familiar with the requirements of BREEAM, and who are involved in targeting UKNC 2018 Mat 01 credits to also view this module.Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, this is primarily aimed at BREEAM assessors, therefore an understanding of BREEAM terminology, operation and requirements is recommended.
