If a Candidate’s professional experience does not appear to meet these criteria, the individual must submit a PDF of their current resume and an explanation of why they believe their experience to be sufficient to BREEAMInUse@bregroup.com for evaluation prior to booking the training.  Full refunds for the course will not be available for Candidates who have insufficient experience and knowledge to understand and assess the technical criteria of BREEAM In-Use.

This comprehensive training course has been designed to allow suitably experienced construction professionals who have a good knowledge of environmental design and the design process to deliver new construction and refurbishment of buildings to meet BREEAM requirements. The new BREEAM AP (Advisory Professional) qualification enables you to work across the relevant BREEAM schemes as a recognised sustainability professional and champion. By successfully completing this training course, you will qualify as a BREEAM AP. On this course, you will learn the role of the AP and understand what a development needs to do in order to meet BREEAM targets and sustainability goals. You’ll learn how to facilitate project teams to schedule activities, set priorities and negotiate the trade-offs required to achieve the target BREEAM rating when the development is formally assessed. On completion of this training course, you’ll be eligible to apply for a BREEAM AP subscription. As a BREEAM AP, you can help and advise developments to achieve up to six BREEAM credits (dependent on the types of schemes). The qualification and annual membership recognise an individual’s ability to provide expert advice on how projects should achieve their sustainability goals and performance.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this course, you can become a BREEAM AP (Design & Site) and be able to help a project to achieve its BREEAM targets and maximise opportunities for project performance. Specifically, you will be able to:
  • Encourage an integrated design and construction process
  • Use BREEAM as a framework to establish, agree and achieve the desired level of sustainability performance for a development
  • Provide expert advice to the design team using the principles of environmental sustainability, environmental design and the environmental assessment process
  • Offer design advice
  • Facilitate the design team’s efforts by providing key input throughout the design process
  • Schedule activities, set priorities and negotiate trade-offs
  • Target BREEAM rating at formal assessment in the most cost-effective way
  • Be able to understand the basics of sustainability on site, both in the correct installation of building components for the optimum environmental performance of the finished building and in minimising impacts from the building site and operations
  • Know how to successfully champion sustainability onsite, including how to involve site workers and the supply chain
  • Understand the process of BREEAM certification and know your role within the post-construction stage assessment
  • Be able to identify the correct type of evidence required to enable the BREEAM assessor to carry out their assessment

Is it right for me?

This training course is suitable for architects, engineers and others with demonstrable design skills and responsibilities who want to specialise in BREEAM.

Requirements

You will need to either hold a recognised academic or vocational qualification in a relevant built environment discipline or have at least three years’ post-graduate (or equivalent) professional experience working in a role covering the sustainability of the built environment. In addition, you should:
  • have had team involvement on a number of projects where sustainability was part of the project brief,
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of environmental design/integrated design with an appreciation of life cycle assessment and cost analysis, and,
  • be able to demonstrate an ability to manage multiple tasks and have time management skills
If you are interested in taking this course to become a BREEAM AP, then please email your CV with a cover letter to BRE. BRE Academy will then confirm you meet the requirements.

BREEAM In-Use Version 6 Client User Guide

BREEAM In-Use (BIU) is a comprehensive and holistic environmental assessment method that can be used for almost any type of building, including commercial and residential assets, across the world. Since its creation in 2009, BREEAM In-Use has been used by thousands of assets in over 30 countries to benchmark, improve and certify their sustainability performance and to showcase high standards of ESG. BIU Version 6 offers the latest in environmental standards with tailored approaches for both commercial and residential assets These approaches create, protect and grow asset value by encouraging investment in the asset’s performance. As part of the BIU V6 offering, an online platform is provided to allow Clients (asset owners and managers) to assess the performance of their assets, measure how they perform against BREEAM criteria and submit their evidence for certification via an Assessor. This platform user guide will help Clients to familiarize themselves with the platform and understand its features.

Learning objectives

Delegates will learn:
  • BREEAM Basics - how BREEAM works and the mechanism behind getting a rating.
  • How to register, measure and certify your asset using the platform.
  • Introduction to our portfolio approach.
  • Background on our National scheme operators (NSOs).

Who is this for?

This user guide is for Clients (asset owners, operators and managers) using BREEAM In-Use Version 6. It applies to assessments against all International, USA, Commercial and Residential standards.

Introduction to SABRE | Free SABRE Course

SABRE inspires property designers, developers, owners and occupiers to adopt a systematic, risk-based approach to security in and around their built assets. This makes the return on investment in security much more visible, quantifiable and justifiable, whilst enabling security to become better integrated into a building’s design, construction and operation. This course provides an overview of the built asset life cycle stages SABRE can cover, the assessment process and timeline, and the key principles of certification that ensure the reliability, impartiality and comparability of a SABRE rating to give added value to your any project or operational facility. The course finally summarises the benefits that SABRE assessment and certification can bring to a range of stakeholders. N.B. BRE Global (incorporating LPCB and SABRE) is a CPD partner of the Security Institute. Therefore, this course is worth double points to those demonstrating Continual Professional Development through the Security Institute’s learning platform. This course is intended to last 1 hour, and as such is worth 2 Security Institute CPD points.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this short course you will be able to:
  • Identify the benefits of using SABRE;
  • Understand the scheme structure and how it applies at each stage of a built asset’s lifecycle;
  • Identify the role of the SABRE Assessor;
  • Understand how a project or built asset is assessed and rated in SABRE; and
  • Understand the importance of certification.
